Yizkor Prayer Service in memory of the Holocaust victims at the Zionist Conference held in the Munich DP Camp, Germany

After the war, Munich became the center for all the large Jewish organizations helping Holocaust survivors in Germany, particularly in the fields of welfare and emigration. A central She’erit Hapleita committee was established in Munich at the end of 1945, which continued its activities until the end of 1950. The American Joint Distribution Committee and the Jewish Agency also managed their activities from their base in Munich. During the years 1945-1951, some 120,000 Jews passed through Munich, most of them on their way to Eretz Israel.

On the far right of the photograph is Zalman Grinberg, President of the Association of Holocaust Survivors in America.
