The Anguish of Liberation and the Return to Life
Return to Life
Hanukkah in the DP camp – Fuerstenfeldbruck, Germany, 1945
The She’erit Hapleita’s return to life after the Holocaust also manifested itself in a return to religion and tradition. There was a particularly festive atmosphere in the DP camps on Jewish holidays, which were celebrated together by the survivors. Celebrating the holidays strengthened the feeling of unity amongst the survivors, and helped bridge language and cultural barriers.
