Teaching the Legacy: e-Newsletter for Holocaust Educators
News from the International Seminars for Educators in the Jewish World Department (April, 2012)

This past February we held our second seminar for Jewish Educators from the United Kingdom. One of the main focuses was to work with individuals to create specialized programs for their institutions. This year we have expanded our French Division and will be having three seminars for French Educators at Yad Vashem. In the summer we will be hosting our annual summer seminar with groups from Seattle, Washington and Miami, Florida. We also provided a mini-workshop to the JEA organization at Yad Vashem in February 2012.

Highlights from the Jewish World Divison:

  • We are excited to announce that Ms. Shani Luria has become the educational director for the Jewish World Division. With over ten years of experience in Holocaust Education, Shani has already become a wonderful addition to our staff. One of her many responsibilities is to make sure our seminars and trips abroad have enough practical educational content which the participants will be able to apply to their own institutions.
  • Since January 2012, we have held seminars for educators from South America and England. Both of these seminars focused on pedagogical approaches to teaching the Holocaust and dealing with the present challenges that exist in their countries. All of the participants were highly-respected teachers and heads of schools. Also, we traveled to France to work with our alumni in Paris and Marseille. Since France has such a large Jewish Community, we will be running three seminars this year at Yad Vashem.
  • In the coming months our educators will be traveling to North America, Vienna and Hungary to meet with our alumni and to present our education philosophy to future seminar participants.
  • We recently started a campaign to engage our alumni: we sent out content and photographs in both Spanish and English about Purim.
