On October 4, 1941, during the liquidation of the small ghetto from 1,608 to 1,845 Jews were shot to death at the Ninth Fort. The largest mass murder operation ("the Big Action") at the Ninth Fort took place on October 29, 1941, when 9,200 Jews from the Kaunas ghetto were shot to death. 4,934 Jews who had been deported from Berlin, Munich, Frankfurt, Vienna, Breslau (Wroclaw) were shot on November 25 and 29, 1941 at the Ninth Fort. On November 29, 1941 2,000 Jews from Vienna and were murdered there. On March 27, 1943, during the so called "Kinder- und Altenaktion" (killing operations of Jewish children and elderly people) about 1,300 victims (some sources mention as many as 2,00) were shot at the Ninth Fort. On March 28, 1943 the ghetto was raided again and an additional 60 children and old people, as well as 40 members of the Ordnungsdienst (the Jewish police) were shot at the Ninth Fort. 45 Jews were shot there in November or December 1943. On March 27, 1944 44 more Jews were murdered. On May 19, 1944 200 - 250 Jews transported from France were shot to death. The shootings were carried out by the German soldiers F. Jordan, J.Stutz, A.Tornbau, H. Rauca, B.Kittel, and others from Rollkommando Hamann/ 1st Battalion 3rd Unit.

During the night of June 25/ 26, 1941 in Kaunas a Lithuanian partisan group headed by Klimaitis carried out a progrom in which 1,500 Jews were murdered. The following night the same group murdered about 2,300 Jews. One of these actions consisted in the torture and massacre of about 60 Jews in the Lietūkis garage.
