The English Language Desk at Yad Vashem's International Relations Division in Jerusalem is responsible for Yad Vashem contacts in all English speaking countries throughout the world, excluding the US and Canada. The primary responsibilities of the English Language Desk is in promoting the development of Yad Vashem and its activities in Jerusalem, and liaising with its friend societies around the world in order to promote Yad Vashem. Currently Yad Vashem has friend societies in Australia and the United Kingdom.
The Australian Friends of Yad Vashem (AFYV) was established in March 2005 to coincide with the opening of the new Holocaust History Museum at Yad Vashem, Jerusalem.
Since then, thousands of Australians have visited the new museum, including several prominent families who have become major benefactors.
Joey Borensztajn was named the new President of AFYV in March 2014, taking over from the founding President Johnny Baker. Joey Borensztajn is a Partner at Arnold Bloch Leibler in Melbourne, a trustee of the Jewish Holocaust Centre Foundation and has been actively involved in fundraising for a number of communal organisations including the Mount Scopus College Foundation and the Jewish Holocaust Centre Foundation. As the child of survivors he has a deep commitment to Holocaust memorialisation. AFYV has appointed Vicki Factor as Honorary Secretary and Michelle Deutsch as Honorary Treasurer.
